After having triumphed in the Super Cup last week nobody expected that Young Stars would be so soundly beaten by Qormi in their first encounter this season.
After a studious start Qormi were probing the Young Stars defence and dominating possession without breaching their lines but they went ahead on 12 minutes when Thomas Degiovanni beat three players to give Kyle Micallef an open goal, shooting Qormi into a 1 – 0 lead. They went further ahead on 20 minutes when Juan Sarcia slotted home as a result of a penalty corner action. On 25 minutes Shamison Mifsud affected a diving save to keep his goal intact, the half-time whistle blowing with Qormi retaining their two-goal lead.
No one imagined the fare the second half would produce. On 38 minutes Juan Sarcia fired a pass into the Dee, with Steve Tanti on hand to deflect it into the roof of the net, putting Qormi into a 3-0 lead. He then scored his second on 47 minutes to shoot his team into a 4-0 lead. The captain grabbed his hat-trick a few minutes later, after deflecting a reverse hit by Keith Calleja, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. Juan Sarcia added his second in the final minutes, after firing a rocket hit from mid-air into the net after the Floriana’s custodian saved his first shot, burying the ball in the goal.
The second leg of the fixture will be played in two-weeks time. Thank you all for the support.
